MUSIC AND LYRICS BY CHRIS HART

"Heatwave" is a dark, moody and rocking single from American singer-songwriter Chris Hart, blending energetic guitars, driving drums and the melodic songwriting at the heart of his sound.

Following his 2025 debut album "Anywhere" and single "July", "Heatwave" continues to develop Chris Hart’s mix of American heartland rock, singer-songwriter storytelling and modern indie rock influences.

"At just 2 minutes and 30 seconds, Heatwave is a self -contained mood swing, dealing with the feeling most people today share: It feels like the world is going to hell and as much as we all try and fight it, there may not be anything we can really do to stop the wheels in motion.

The idea for the song came in the summer of 2024. While finding myself seemingly sweating to death in my London flat, I was struck with a clear and menacing thought. It should not be this hot in England. Why does it feel like we're all doing our best to help the planet, but a few people in charge of everything because of the money they've accumulated are allowed to ruin it all?

Musically, the single brings together classic American rock songwriting structure with the contemporary indie influences that have shaped my music. Although more aggressive than most of my previous songs, it's equally driven by melody, guitars and intimate lyrics.  Heatwave is a brief, but energetic track. With a powerful groove based around big drums, a swinging bass and intense guitar tracks, starting lightly, building into a raucous crescendo, and finishing back where it started, with quiet acceptance."

For Chris, an American artist now based in London, Heatwave is another chapter in a body of work shaped by both sides of the Atlantic, from his earlier  years writing and recording in Atlanta to his life performing and making music in the UK.

Lyrics

Thunder clouds in your hometown

Looming loud and proud

With an awful sound

Smokestack lightning coming down

Acid rain to wash you out

But girl if we’re going down

Honey we’re going down singing

‘Cause Hell is hot

And this city’s hotter

Won’t be long til it’s under water

I feel a heatwave coming

I feel a heatwave coming

See I got the world in my pocket

And I can’t shut it off

checking the time

On my favorite doomsday clock

And I’m not tied to your rocket

I'm just lost in the crowd

Looking for what we need

But it won’t be found

And girl if we’re going down

Honey we’re going down singing

Yeah ‘cause hell is hot

and this city’s hotter

Won’t be long til it’s under water

I feel a heatwave coming

woah I feel a heatwave coming

‘Cause hell is hot and this world is hotter

Won’t be long til we’re under water

I feel a heatwave coming

Oh, gather up your sons and daughters

Call your mother and your father

I feel a heatwave coming

I feel a heatwave coming
