“Gone Tonight” is about my life as a full-time musician working and living in London. My time is a mix of the excitement of performing but also the harsh and sometimes boring reality of it being my job. Late nights, performing in empty pubs, sketchy journeys home, bad food after midnight. It’s about more of the bleak bits of “living the dream”.
Most nights I do think about hanging it up and doing something more “normal”, being home with my wife and enjoying the security of a day job. But the fact is I’m not ready to stop trying because I think music will eventually take me where I want to go. So I grit my teeth and keep working at it. I’ll be gone tonight again.
Musically it’s really pulling from my love of 70’s and 80’s pop rock. It’s got elements of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, while also a bit of modern production style from Sam Fender and Noah Kahan. It’s a go,go,go type of song. Determined to keep going. Ending with a fade instead of a definite close.
