“Selfish” is track 2 off the first album “Anywhere” by Chris Hart.

Written after arriving in London, I found myself feeling a little *too* happy to be here. I started thinking about my friends and family in the States and I felt what many self-sabotagers feel; guilt. It brings to life the other side of the coin of starting a new life, the people you leave behind. My friends and family are doing fine back home, it's not like I left everything in shambles, but I couldn't shake the feeling that I wished I could bring everyone with me and that nothing would change while I was gone, which I knew was impossible.

 

Musically this song is a total groove, drawing upon southern rock from the 1970’s with a lot of great guitar work and a steady drum and bass backbone, but lyrically it’s darker than it comes across. It’s another encapsulation of the album’s themes as a whole. Very inspired by a classic southern rock song (you know the one) this is another song people love to hear live and that we love to play in the band.
