“Little Ways” is track 6 off the first album “Anywhere” by Chris Hart.

 

As one of the clear favorites from the album, this song touches on a key moment from most people’s lives, a bad breakup. More specifically, the feeling of looking back on a relationship with rose-tinted glasses and slowly realizing things weren’t really all that good to begin with. I actually wrote "Little Ways" as a bit of an exercise. I've been unbelievably lucky in my life to be with my wife since we were 15 years old, and because of that, I've never had the displeasure of going through a bad breakup. While that's amazing for my sanity, it really robbed me of a lot of writing material! What good is a singer-songwriter if they can't write about heartbreak? So, I took it upon myself to try and get into that headspace and write my own, thinking more about friends that I don't speak to anymore, people who I've met that I didn't like, and also a lot of movies and TV shows about the subject. I hope I never relate to this song too much.

 

"Little Ways" is more of a pop song than the rest of the album, a bit more of straight ahead drum and bass groove, driving acoustic guitar and an early 2000s indie rock lead guitar lick present throughout the choruses. Meanwhile, it does contain the same instrumentation as the rest of the album with slide guitars, acoustic rhythm, real drum sounds, and big vocal harmonies, so it fits write in.
