“Leave Without You” is track 5 off the first album “Anywhere” by Chris Hart.

 

 I wrote "Leave Without You" before I left America, around the same time as "Anywhere", when I was really thinking of the worst case scenario of this new change in my life. With a deep sense of longing and guilt, this track explores another side of the journey of starting a new life. What if everyone at home moves on? This to me, is the most “country” sounding song on the record, but it does get pretty heavy toward the end, introducing the first proper guitar solo on the album. It’s sad, yearning and guilt-ridden. The 6/8 time signature is waltz-like, and I wanted to make the listener feel like they’re in a dance they can’t get out of. Big, thumping drums and bass, heavy electric guitar, wailing slide and a steady march of acoustic guitar bring this song to its apex and leaves you with the question:

what comes next?
